Which Method is the Best?

Jason Alexander Hair Transplant Hair loss is a very serious problem, whether you are a famous or regular person, you might face up with it at some point in your life. Today, male pattern alopecia (hair loss) affects more than 50 million people just in the US; also according to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, surgeries to fix hair loss have increased 60 percent worldwide in the past few years. Statistics showed that, whereas 84,7 percent of people who had hair transplants in past years were men, 15,3 percent were women.

To ISHRS Practice Census, in 2011 the total amount of hair restoration processes were 923.599 worldwide; 251.208 of them were surgical operations, and 672.391 of them were non-surgical. Solutions to hair loss vary; some people choose to have hair transplant/implant operations, some of them choose using wigs, hairpieces, or toupees, some just simply shave their heads or use like the way they are; however, Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) are far more popular aspects in hair refreshment sector without a doubt.

FUE and FUT had been developed by Drs. Bernstein and Rassman as a result of numerous studies; then, many scientists came after they built upon their studies and carried hair transplant technology through beyond their time. Follicular Unit Extraction, as a method, focuses on using hair with a buzz cut, then implants back of the scalp with numerous amount of hair follicles. On the other hand, Follicular Unit Transplantation focuses using the source of follicular units and implants these units into shedding areas of the head. When these methods first revealed in their time, they were exposed a great skepticism and resilience, but today, they became two of the most chosen and developed methods in the world. Besides these, no matter which method people use they tend to hide the path they have been struggling, especially celebrities. But they compromise in time anyway; as they are in the limelight of dermatologists, experts, and fans, changes in their appearances could be determined easily.

Did Alopecia Do Him a Favor?

Jason Alexander Hair Transplant Some celebrities who had been struggling with either male or female pattern hair shedding for a long time choose to be open about their condition. By doing that they mostly want to inspire and help other men and women to find their way on hair refreshment (because it is a wide area). Jay Scott Greenspan, an American actor, comedian, singer, and director; also known as with his stage name, Jason Alexander, was one of them. His most popular role is “George Costanza” in the television series “Seinfeld” (1989–1998); which made him be nominated for seven Primetime Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. His other popular roles were Phillip Stuckey in the movie “Pretty Woman” (1990), Hugo in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (1996), and animated series “Duckman” (1994 – 1997); recently he starred in movies “My Boyfriend’s Meds “ (2020) and “Faith-Based” (2020) and took part as character voicing in famous cartoons such as Tom & Jerry.

Jason Alexander indicated that he started losing his hair when he was just a teenager, 17 years old. First, although the price of the hair loss was mostly on his social life, it can’t be said that his career affected. Because he was an actor who was suitable for mostly comedy based movies, so he could take part in these kinds of movies as acting older men. When it is considered in that way, male pattern alopecia almost did him a favor in his career; his fame started rising with these movies. But in time, his lost hair became and professional issue, tragically, the balding area of his hair became reflecting spotlights into the cameras and it was found very distracting by many people, including his fans. So his hair, which had been contributing to his career until then became a problem in it, he had to find a way to refresh his hair, or at least, a way to prevent reflecting spotlights.

No Surgery, Just a Semi-permanent Hairpiece

Instead of doing this by himself, he talked with his wife and wanted to decide together; he was going to put some hair on to his head, but not in a surgical way. He and his wife, Daena Title, both of them were not in favor of having a hair transplant surgery. Instead, they chose using a hairpiece; with this tool, his hair would look like (and still looks like) he was a man who started to lose his hair, and of course, a man whose head didn’t reflect spotlights on the stage. It appears that his hairpiece was designed by a hair designer; Alexander later indicated that the hair designer was surprised as much as he did when he heard the idea the first time! When his new thicker hair started to realized, he explained in Tv shows what happened; “What you see on my head is a really good, semi-permanent hairpiece. By semi-permanent I mean that I can wear it constantly for weeks at a time if I so choose. I can swim, shower, work out — whatever. It stays on.”

He added the reason behind using it was he wanted to have his hair from 10 years ago, so by that way it wouldn’t look artificial, unlike other products. But the thing is, as a 61 years old man, although he looks like a man in his 30s whose hair started to shed, it is just a temporary solution. He indicated that he could take it off any time of any day he chose but using a hairpiece is not something that helps you with growing new hair on your head.

Also, products like these remain mostly as “foreign body attached to your head”, so you have to replace it often, but it is still likely to look extremely unnatural. Without a doubt, the most effective and permanent solution today is having a hair transplant; which is widely chosen by millions of people. Unlike using wigs, hairpieces, or toupees, a hair transplant does not require maintenance and replacement; once the surgery is done, you can enjoy your new growing hair.
